Welcome UTM students!
On behalf of the University of Toronto Mississauga Students’ Union (UTMSU), we would like to congratulate all incoming and returning students for starting a new academic year on our beautiful Mississauga campus.
The UTM Students’ Union, Local 109 of the Canadian Federation of Students, has a vision to represent and advocate for all undergraduate students at the University. Our fundamental beliefs, which include the power of representation, and strength in diverse voices and opinions, are the cornerstone of our council. The UTM Students’ Union is membership driven and cannot survive without vital student input and involvement.
Some of the past accomplishments of your UTM Students’ Union include implementing an 8 month and a Summer Universal Bus Pass, advocating and then acquiring the credit/no credit policy, late withdrawal academic policy, and gaining full management of the student center.
We currently provide a wide array of services such as: discounted photocopying & faxing; a food bank; discounted movie, bowling, and Raptor tickets; a used book exchange; academic advocacy services; a health and dental plan; and the U-PASS Programs (Fall/Spring, and Summer) just to name a few. In addition, we run campaigns to fight for students’ rights, from international issues to local movements – the union is always there to bring positive social change.
The UTMSU firmly believes that rising tuition fees is a barrier to accessing post-secondary education. Why are students burdened with mortgage-sized loans? We need to prioritize education in Canada by advocating for the implementation of a national vision for post-secondary education.
We are here for you but we cannot accomplish any of our goals without student support. There are monthly commission meetings where any student can come and provide input and ideas for campus events, campaigns and services. It is crucial that you are involved by making your voice heard! By working collectively we are at our best and are able to accomplish our mutual goals.
Together we can make sure that student issues are placed at the forefront and not the backend! So, if you want to work for these initiatives and more, or if you have an idea or concern to address, get involved and come into Room 100 in your Student Center to start the conversation.
Remember,
To Drive Positive Change, you must ENGAGE!
In Student Solidarity,
